Planet Dance is not responsible for paying any banking fees.Family Discount* A family discount of 5% will be applied to family accounts that have two or more dancers within their immediate family dancing during the same year. Family discounts will be applied when registering for the entire dance season (September-June).* No family discount is available in conjunction with boys discount.Cancellation Policy* You are welcome to try one class prior to registering. * Once registered for the season, there will be NO REFUNDS permitted after 7 days of registration.* Studio Credit will be given as refund with medical certificate.* There is a $25.00 administration fee on credits. * A class can be cancelled at any time if there are less than 5 students registered in that class. If this occurs, all attempts will be made to move the student into another class. If this cannot be met, a pro-rated refund will be issued. The same applies if a class must be split due to over-enrolment.* There are no refunds/credits/make-up classes given for missed classes due to illness, vacations, etc.* If a class must be cancelled for reasons other than weather related or emergency factors out of our control, every effort will be made to schedule a make-up class at a time convenient for the class participants. If students do not attend the make-up class, no other refunds/credits/make-up classes will be provided.* In the event of unforeseen circumstances such as poor weather, Planet Dance has the right to cancel classes. If you are unsure if weather conditions will result in cancelled classes, please check the website or call the studio at 613-715-9333 and listen to the outgoing message on our answering machine (it will state the date and indicate that classes are cancelled). If a class has to be cancelled for these reasons, NO class will be held as a make-up class as our schedules are so tight it unfortunately does not allow room for make-up classes for reasons such as weather. * There may also be a change in your instructor at any time of the year at the discretion of the director. As this does not disrupt classes, there are no refunds or changes in schedule for this reason. All classes will take place as usual, unless other arrangements have been made between the teacher & the parents. Late Fees* Late fees will be added to outstanding accounts a day after they are due. To avoid paying late fees, please ask your child/children for invoices, check the white board for items owing, and visit the office on a regular basis to enquire if you are not sure. * Late fees will be added to all items owing, such as: term fees, costume deposits, costume balances, competitive fees, exams, etc. Past Due accounts* All past due accounts will be sent to a collection agency and all fees associated will be added to payments owing.

Dress Code - Punctuality

Dress CodeBallet Tank or short sleeved bodysuit with ballet pink tights and pink leather ballet slippers (full sole). Hair is to be tied back neatly in secure a bun and off the face. Proper RAD attire will be required for exam students. Kinder, preprimary and primary should also wear a short wrap-over skirt. Grades 1 to Grade 5 should also have a character skirt and canvas character shoesGrade 6 should also have a chiffon skirt (mid-calf in length), canvas character shoes with cuban heel; character skirt. a light chiffon scarf will be provided during class. Pointe: same as Ballet Class including pink Pointe Shoes.Jazz/Lyrical: Younger dancers should wear navy bodysuits and beige tights (beige jazz shoes or a jazz sandle). Teen age students should wear black bodysuits with black dance shorts and black convertible tights (Jazz shoes or dance sandals). Hair is to be worn in a ponytail or bun for all classes. Footless or convertible tights are preferred as it allows the dancers to convert to bare feet when necessary. Combo classes and Dance It! : same bodywear as Jazz except for adults who may wear athletic wear of their choice. Tap/Jazz combo require Ballet slippers and Tap shoes. Jazz/Ballet combo require only ballet slippers. Dance It! 3-5 years Ballet Slippers and running shoes. Dance It! 6yrs-adult require jazz shoes and runners .Tap: same bodywear as Jazz. Beige low heel tap shoes for younger students and adults/teens students should wear black lace up tap shoes. Hip Hop: Comfort is key! Anything but jeans and dresses. Only clean INDOOR running shoes and hip hop shoes permitted in class. We encourage the dancers to express themselves through their clothing - headbands, hats, anything you want!Adults: Athletic wear of your choice with proper shoes.Acro: Navy tank bodysuit with navy or black dance shorts. Hair is to be secured neatly in a bun and off the face for all classes. No jewelry and no tights preferred. Barefoot for class is also recommended. Pre-Dance: The main focus is having the children dance and for this reason we do not strictly enforce a dress code. Please do not wear dresses or jeans. Bodysuits and ballet slippers are recommended. Tutus welcome.Yoga: form fitting athletic wear, bare feet, and a yoga mat is recommended.Zumba: any athletic wear or tshirts and shorts, clean indoor running shoes.Latin: tank tops or tshirts, skirts, and shoes with a heel (ballroom shoes or high heel shoes accepted).Boys/Men: Please speak to your instructor as dress codes differ depending on style of dance.Punctuality* All students should be ready to dance a few minutes before class time.* If you know you are going to be late, please call in advance to advise us of the delay.* Students, please ensure you go to the washroom before each class as to minimize class disruptions.

RecitalLocation: TBA Rehearsal date: TBARecital date: TBA Time: TBAAll students wishing to participate in the year end recital must purchase a recital costume for each class the dancer is enrolled in as well as a recital ticket if they wish to watch the recital. Costume deposits are due NO LATER than December 1 2011 - $45+HST=$50.85 by cash, cheque, or email money transfer.There is NO video camera or flash photography permitted in the auditorium during the dress rehearsal or recital. Flash photography can cause harm to our dancers during their performances, and a professional videographer will be recording the recital for your enjoyment. Dress rehearsal is a closed practice (no audience members permitted).Class PicturesA professional photographer will be at our studio May 9th for competitive team photos and May 10th for all Recreational class photos. Exact schedule is posted in the lobby at Planet Dance. Please attend as a class photo will be taken along with individuals. Those interested in purchasing photographs can do so at dress rehearsal May 27th. Payments will be made to the photographing company directly.Studio WearPlanet Dance jackets, shirts, shorts, pants, bags, etc. are available for purchase to those interested in supporting the studio by showing off the studio colours with pride. It is strongly recommended that competitive students purchase a jacket for the competition season.

If you have lost an item, please check our lost and found box .InjuriesThere are potential risks in any physical activity program. Those who suffer from heart conditions, chest pains, loss of consciousness, loss of balance as a result of dizziness, bone or joint problems that could be aggravated by physical activity should consult a physician for advice prior to attending our programs.

Parents Night Out is Back!

Do you want free time to shop (for the holidays), go to a movie, or have a relaxing dinner? We'll keep your 4 to 10 year olds busy while you do whatever you want to do. Your kids will spend the evening dancing, making crafts, playing games, playing dress-up, watching movies, and more. We will need at least 6 children to run the event.

Here are the details:

* Children will be fed pizza and juice for dinner.

PD Classes

slide 1 Ballet (R.A.D)Classical ballet consists of three interrelated elements - Technique, Music and Performance. Students gain a discipline of the mind and spirit as well as the body. Creative Movement, Character, Demi-Pointe and Pointe classes are available. This art form is the basis of dance and should be in every dancers class list.Ballet (RAD) Royal Academy of Dance Exams are completed in the Spring or Fall. The RAD require a minimum age level for each grade.Pre-Primary - 5 years and overPrimary - 6 years and overGrades 1 to 5 - 7 years and overGrades 6 to 8 - 11 years and overIntermediate Foundation - 11 years and overIntermediate - 12 years and overAdvanced Foundation - 13 years and overAdvanced 1 - 14 years and overAdvanced 2 - 15 years and overSolo Seal Award must hold their Advanced 2 Pointe (R.A.D.)A form of ballet for more experienced female dancers. Classes consist of Pointe technique incorporating classical ballet movements. Kinder Ballet This is an introduction to Ballet following the basic elements for preparation for the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus) pre-primary level. It is a great class to introduce students to ballet as creative movement and ballet basics are explored.Kinder Ballet-Jazz ComboStudents are introduced to the basics of Jazz using fun, upbeat music and movements as well as Ballet following the basic elements for preparation for the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus) pre-primary level. Ballet shoes required.

slide 2 Ballerina DreamsBallerina Dreams is a modified, therapeutic ballet class for children aged 3 to 13 with physical disabilities. The class focuses on the very basics of ballet and each dancer is paired up with a volunteer mentor who enables their participation in the class. Taught by a dance instructor, and facilitated by a therapist and mentors, this class allows these children to overcome obstacles and experience being a ballerina. Our dance studio is fully wheelchair accessible.

slide 3 LyricalA more contemporary style of Ballet/Jazz that demonstrates extension, balance, as well as an interpretation of the music. Students should also be registered in a ballet class for best results.

slide 4 ContemporaryModern/Contemporary dance is the name given to a dance tradition that arose as a reaction to ballet, using the body to explore space and lines and energy in dance movement. Through the use of various developed techniques from at least 2 years of ballet, students learn to use their natural instincts, impulses, and a release of natural feeling when moving. The dancer tries to release the inner feelings in an outer expression. Though it often uses the body alignment and movement of ballet, modern dance encompasses a much broader world than ballet. It is movement with freedom and meaning, usually for a serious artistic purpose. Modern/Contemporary dance stresses expressive individuality over conformity of movement. Students should also be registered in a ballet class for best results.

slide 5 Jazz (BATD)Jazz is one of the most popular forms of dance today. Jazz students learn basic technique as well as the latest style of Jazz as seen in Videos, Film and Television. While jazz is an art form in its own right, it is also beneficial to the overall development of the dancer - and an enjoyable form of exercise!Kinder Jazz-Tap ComboThis class is open to students aged 3-5 years. This class introduces the basics of tap and jazz to fun, upbeat music. Tap shoes and jazz/ballet shoes are required.Kinder Ballet-Jazz ComboStudents are introduced to the basics of Jazz using fun, upbeat music and movements as well as Ballet following the basic elements for preparation for the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus) pre-primary level. Ballet shoes required.

slide 6 Tap (BATD)Tap Dance is known as a favorite discipline because the students are making music with their feet. Students learn to improve their rhythm and co-ordination to energetic music. Kinder Jazz-Tap ComboThis class is open to students aged 3-5 years. This class introduces the basics of tap and jazz to fun, upbeat music. Tap shoes and jazz/ballet shoes are required.

slide 7 Art & Pre-DanceIn this 45 minute class, Children aged 2 and 3 will learn the basics of music, space and movement through dance, games, fun movement and songs. Students will also have an opportunity to work on creativity and artistic skills by creating a new craft each week that will be incorporated into the dance portion of the class.

slide 8 Hip HopThis enjoyable discipline combines Funk, Jazz, Latin and African dance to bring you the least structured dance form as seen in your favorite videos. Kinder Hip Hop (3-5 years)This class introduces the basics of hip hop while also learning about movement, space, individuality, and body awareness. The music and movements are upbeat, fun and age appropriate.

slide 9 Musical TheatreA variety of styles of dance expressed through Musical Theatre from Broadway shows or through portrayals of recognizable characters. A fun class for the beginner dancer and experienced dancers looking to improve their stage presence.

slide 10 Dance Fitness ComboEnjoy a fun workout with loads of variety throughout the year. Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Dance, and more. Designed for teens and adults who want to burn calories, get fit, learn new techniques, and most of all - have fun!

Page 11 Dance It!This class offers something for everyone! This fun and exciting class enables dancers of all ages and levels to experience variety in one dance class. From Sept-June students will increase technique and knowledge while learning a variety of dance forms. Dance forms will include Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. Center work, progressions & combinations will all form part of this class. Performance opportunities also included through our year-end recital.Class is available in all age groups.

Page 12 LatinEnjoy learning the Salsa (Cuban Style), the Rumba, ChaCha, Bachata, and Merengue during our 12 week programs. Classes available for children and adults. No partner needed.

Page 13 YogaYoga is a healing system of theory and practice. It is a combination of breathing exercises, physical postures, and meditation that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years.We are excited to offer Yoga for kids and adults.

Page 14 ZumbaZumba is a dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez in Columbia during the 1990s. The program combines Latin and international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun. The Zumba workout provides fitness benefits because its routines feature interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training, which are intended to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat. Music is the key ingredient to Zumba classes. The score, created with specific beats and tempo changes, transitions the workout from one toning, strengthening or cardio move to another, thus targeting every major muscle group in the body.

Recreational RecreationalOur RECREATIONAL program provides dancers an opportunity to learn dance in a dynamic setting and at a pace appropriate to their age and level. Ballerina Dreams Ballerina DreamsOur BALLERINA DREAMS program is a modified, therapeutic ballet class for children aged 3 to 13 with physical disabilities. The class focuses on the very basics of ballet and each dancer is paired up with a volunteer mentor who enables their participation in the class. Taught by a dance instructor, and facilitated by a therapist, this class finally allows these children to overcome obstacles and experience being a ballerina. Our dance studio is fully wheelchair accessible. CALLING ALL MENTORSThis class allows children who usually use wheelchairs, walkers, or canes to truly experience being ballerinas! We pair each dancer with a mentor, who will be there to physically support them as well as help them through simple ballet movements. This is where we need some help! Pre-Competitive Pre-CompetitiveOur PRE-COMPETITIVE program is OPEN TO EVERYONE. The pre-competitive program is available to any dancer looking to experience the excitement of competitive dance. Pre-competitive dancers spend between 2-4 hours per week in the studio. Dancers will compete in group categories in 2-3 competitions. Competitive CompetitiveOur COMPETITIVE program is OPEN TO EVERYONE. The competitive program enables students to increase their dance knowledge and experience at a faster and more intensive pace. These dancers train more than 5 hours per week and participate at various events and competitions throughout the season.We do not feel that any person should be denied the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful experience. Examination ExaminationOur EXAMINATION program is taught using the RAD syllabus. Dancers are taught various exercises, dances, and rhythms which have been designed to train dancers from the pre-dance level to the professional level. Dancers in the graded or vocational programs wishing to partake in examinations must take a minimum of 2 classes per week.

End Graduate ProgramOur GRADUATE program has been designed to meet the needs of previously competitive/advanced dancers who want to continue to dance at a higher level without major time commitments.Opportunites for performances and competitions are available.

Camps

Planet Dance offers children aged 3 and older the opportunity to learn how to dance in a fun and relaxed environment during our camps. The camps are open to all children from the beginner to the advanced level. The children stay at the studio the entire week and provide a special performance for their family on Friday afternoon.Children will enjoy learning a variety of dance styles such as Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary and Musical Theatre. We will also be creating great crafts and plays, dressing-up and costuming, playing games and so much more.Extended hours, multiple camp, and immediate family discounts on half day and on full day are available.Our dance camp includes a week filled with fun and fitness at our professional studios on Carling Ave., fully equipped with fridge, and microwave for camp lunches.A five day dance camp allows you to claim up to $500 under the children's fitness tax credit if your child is under 16.
